"We worked with A Cut Above for our kitchen remodel in our old historic home. We had a WONDERFUL experience, and we are incredibly happy with our new kitchen. The excellent quality of the work and transparency were great, and they were communicative and responsive throughout the process. We would hands down recommend them without hesitation to family and friends."

Design Approach

The design intent was to strike a balance between preserving the historic charm and modernizing the kitchen. The remodel featured Showplace Cabinetry, offering soft-close drawers and doors that provided both elegance and functionality. The countertops were upgraded with sleek quartz surfaces, adding durability and a refined look to the space. Crown molding was added to the cabinetry to maintain the historic aesthetic, while Momentum Flooring was installed to refresh and modernize the space. Additionally, the kitchen was fitted with a Moen Align Faucet, combining style with performance and ensuring longevity.

Challenges

During the demolition phase, we discovered significant structural damage to the kitchen floor caused by a past fire. To ensure the space was safe and secure for the homeowners, we completely rebuilt the floor supports before continuing with the remodel. This unexpected repair was crucial to moving the project forward while maintaining the integrity of the home.

Custom Features

To meet the client’s specific request for a place to discreetly store shoes near the entryway, we custom-designed a large drawer base cabinet. This feature included upgraded hardware for durability and ease of use, allowing the homeowners to keep their shoes out of sight without compromising on aesthetics or space.

Results

The remodeled kitchen transformed from a simple, basic space into a beautiful, highly functional area that the homeowners love. The design updates brought new life to the home, offering a modern yet cohesive space that perfectly blends with the home’s historic charm.

Final Thoughts

This project is a great example of how thoughtful design and careful planning can overcome challenges in historic homes. Despite the structural setbacks, the result was a stunning and functional kitchen that the homeowners are thrilled with, made even better by high-quality finishes and products likeShowplace Cabinetry, Quartz Countertops, and Momentum Flooring.
